Fruit ministry? Did I hear right?

One of Streetlight Christian Ministries most effective involvements with the children in our neighborhood has been handing out fruit as they pass our back door after school. Why is this effective? We have found it effective because they respond well in this non-formal environment. If it be addressing behavior problems in kids club or getting them to open up about their struggles they respond much better when sharing a snack outdoors. To always keep fresh fruit on hand we watch for sales at local stores and markets and stock up when we get a good deal. As you can imagine this is no small cost, but it has proven to be worth the expense time and time again by giving us an opportunity to come along side the kids we are trying to reach.
